Fruit and vegetable exports rise by 10.6% in Q1

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association (VinaFruit), the export of the products to China edged up 23% in the reviewed period to reach nearly US$560 million in value, accounting for 60% of the country’s total export value of the products.

The surge can mainly be attributed to China’s re-opening in early January, its increasing importation of fruits and vegetables from the Vietnamese market, and the efforts of local exporters to maintain orders with partners in the United States, the EU, and Japan.

As of early March, China’s customs authorities had approved 246 Vietnamese farming area codes and 97 packaging facility codes that fully meet the requirements for export to the Chinese market.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) therefore assigned the Plant Protection Department to work alongside localities to control fruit diseases, and instruct growers to build farming area codes. This will contribute to helping provide trace origin codes for products, thereby making it easier to expand exports.

With positive results recorded in early 2023, the export of fruit and vegetables is anticipated to raise the sector’s total export turnover to about US$4 billion this year, an annual rise of 20%.
